US Congressman. Flamboyant Seattle Democratic Congressman from 1932 to 1936. A hard-working and idealistic new Dealer, Marion Zioncheck began acting erratically in early 1936. His stunts included dancing in fountains and driving up the White House lawn. He was committed to a Maryland mental hospital but escaped just in time to file his re-election papers in Washington State. Days later he committed suicide by jumping out his Arctic Building campaign office window, landing on the Third Avenue sidewalk below. The vacancy created by Zioncheck's sudden death opened the door for Warren G. Magnuson's long Congressional career.
