Born 1750, in South Carolina, where he served as a Private in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, as indicated in the DAR Patriot Index, Centennial Edition, Part III, page 2466.

(From Miss Blanche L. McCleary, 1977). "Samuel Ridgdill served in a regiment in the Revolution composed of men from the Beach Island section of the Old Ninety-Six District, now Edgefield County, South Carolina."

Book M, page 90 of Stub Entries to Indents Issued in Payment of Claims Against South Carolina Growing Out of the Revolution, entry No. 48, reads as follows: "Issued the first October 1784 to Mr. Samuel Ridgdill late a private in Lieut. Colo. Samuel Hammonds regiment of State Troops for Ninety-four pounds Sterling being the balance of pay and Bounty due him for Services in that regiment together with Interest thereon from the first April 1782 to date of Indent: agreeable to a resolution of the General Assembly of the Eleventh March last. Principal 94..0..0 , Interest 6..11..7 ."

Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia indicates Samuel and Lucretia were married in Edgefield District, S.C., and lived there after marriage, before moving to Warren County, Georgia.

Warren County Deed Book A:
John Kent to Joseph Burson, for $200, 150 acres ajoining Samuel Ridgdell, William Jones, and James Napier, granted 11 Nov 1788.

Warren County Records, Pg. 46, Lydia Nepper (Napier) and Samuel Ridgedell, Admrs. of James Nepper estate with the will annexed. Dated 8 Feb 1802.

Will of James Napier: heirs, loving wife; sons, Drury and Caleb; daughters Pheobe Brown, Creesa (Cressy) Ridgedall, and Martha Presley; granddaughter Sarah Smith.

The 1805 Georgia Land Lottery records indicate his residence as Greene County, and that he was entitled to two draws in the lottery.

The 1805 Family Heads in Georgia indicate he moved to Effingham County, where he made a deed in favor of his children, son, John Ridgdill, who married Mary Wheeler 11 Jul 1813, Effingham County, and daughters, Martha Green, and Phoebe Wheeler.

The 1820 Land Lottery records indicate his residence as Effingham County, and that he drew 490 acres of land in Appling County. On 6 Dec 1825, Samuel sold acreage granted in 1820 Land Lottery.

To son Samuel, the plantation where I live containing 250 acres. To son Jonathan Taylor, tract of 100 acres and another tract of 100 acres originally granted to Matthew Brooks and William Nelson. To daughter Martha Taylor £ 200 S.C. To youngest daughter Prudence £ 200 S.C. out of debts due to the estate. Executors to collect debts due estate and pay daughters' their money when they are of age. If one daughter die her portion goes to the remaining daughters. Remainder of my estate to wife Mary Taylor during her widowhood for her use and the maintaince and education of my 6 children. If wife should marry before children reach their age - then executors take over personal estate. Samuel Pearson and Mercer Babb Sr. executors. Wit: Samuel Kelley, Joshua Reader, Samuel Ridgdell. 4 March 1789.
