Obituary:

John Fremont Dickerson, son of Thomas and Hanna Harrison Dickerson, for more than fifty years was one of the familiar figures of Marion, died at his home Thursday. Mr Dickerson, who had not been able to be out for several years, succumbed to an illness of long duration.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning in the Methodist Church, the Rev. W. W. Owen officiating.

John Fremont Dickerson, was born Sept 4, 1856, near Cadiz, Harrison County, Ohio. When he was quite small the family moved to North Lewisburg, Ohio, from there to Iowa in 1869, and to Marion, Kansas, in 1871.

He taught school two years in Marion County. Was married to Linda Oursler, and they lived in Western Kansas ten years. They adopted two children; Maybelle died when two years old, and Howard in the World War.

After returning to Marion County Mr. Dickerson was a Rural Mail Carrier for eighteen years, and was retired fifteen years ago when he was incapacitated for service by an accident. He has been a shut-in for the past two years, his health failing rapidly the last month.

He had been a member of the Methodist Church since young manhood, and loved to be in the church services. Was an usher in the Marion Church a number of years, and attending as long as he was able. He had a happy, kindly disposition, and during his life made hundreds of friends to whom he was ever loyal and true. He took an active interest in his community and spent many happy hours visiting with his friends over these and affairs of wider scope.

He died at his home in Marion, Kansas, February 27, 1936. His death breaks the circle of seven children who attained maturity, two sisters having died in infancy. Those remaining are: Mrs. Mary L. Keller and Mrs. Louisa Hoch, of Marion; Judge Joe T. Dickerson of Edmond, Oklahoma, Mrs. Jessie Hastings, of Seattle, Washington; Mrs Eva Rider of Eldorado, Kansas; and Rev. Avery Dickerson of Joy, Illinois. His father and mother both preceded him in death a number of years ago.

Out-of-town relatives here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Rider, Eldorado, Mr. Homer Hoch, Mrs. L. L. Saylor and Edward Ferris, of Topeka.
