Francis Ross Smith, 92, of Midland died on Monday, April 1, 2013. He was born on Sunday, August 29, 1920 in McNeil, Arkansas to Rossie Frances Smith and Sydney Meek Smith. He was a veteran of WWII and served from 1941 to 1945 in the South Pacific on the islands of Saipan and Okinawa. Francis married the love of his life, Frances Green Smith in Magnolia, Arkansas. He was a resident of Midland for 56 years, where he was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for 54 years. Francis owned the Woodcook Stove, and worked as a chef at Green's Restaurant and Warfield Truck Terminal. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother and son, John Sidney Smith. Those left behind to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Frances Green Smith; daughter, Jan Smith Stephan and husband Thomas H. Stephan; grandchildren: Stephen Thomas Stephan, Shelby Anne Stephan and Susanna Marie Stephan. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 between the hours of 6:00-8:00pm at Ellis Funeral Home. A funeral service has been scheduled at 10:00am on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 4501 Thomason Drive, Midland, Texas, with Pastor Randy Thomas officiating.
