Duane A. Askelson, age 54, of Hitterdal, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Visitation: One hour before the service.

Funeral: Friday, April 5, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., in Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal, MN.

Interment: Felton Cemetery, Felton, MN.

OBITUARY
Duane A. Askelson, 54, Hitterdal, MN passed away April 2, 2013, in his home surrounded by family under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Duane Alan Askelson was born December 10, 1958, in Moorhead, MN to Melvin Elroy and Darlene Audrey (Glawe) Askelson. He grew up in the Felton, MN area until he began farming, which became a lifelong passion. He married Marlys Ann Thompson on June 14, 1977, and they had three children.

Duane loved hunting, fishing, farming and just being outdoors. He would often take drives just so he could look at the scenery. He was also a huge Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings fan.
Duane's biggest joy was spending time with family and friends. He loved being a grandpa to his five grandchildren as well as many others who adopted him as "Grandpa Duane". His smile and laughter will be greatly missed but will never be forgotten. Duane will be remembered as a cherished father, loving grandfather, a loyal brother and a faithful friend.

Duane is survived by his three children: Jessica (Robert) Landsverk, West Fargo, ND; Catherine Askelson, Moorhead, MN; and James (Kaia) Askelson, Ulen, MN; five grandchildren: Angela, Amber, Jacob, Gracyn and Eastyn; five sisters: Delores (Billy) Halverson, Hitterdal, MN; Elaine Thompson, Hitterdal, MN; Denise (Roger) Halverson, Ulen, MN; Julie (Richie) Klemetson, Hitterdal, MN; Marcine Cahill, Waseca, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service: Friday, April 5, 2013, at Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal, MN.
Burial at the Felton Cemetery, Felton, MN.
