Ernestine Daniels, age 87, of Independence, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at Regal Estates in Independence.
Services for Ernestine Daniels will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 5, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Darlene Easley of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. and Elder Melvin Simpson of Young's Chapel officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6;00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Ernestine Daniels Scholarship Fund and may be sent to Webb Family Funeral Service, 1475 S. 10th, Independence, KS, 67301.
Ernestine Daniels was born on November 5, 1925, in Dewey, Oklahoma, to Lewis and Eva (Raimey) Daniels. She moved to Independence and graduated from Independence High School and Pittsburg State Teacher's College. She taught elementary school at Parsons, Kansas, and then worked at Wig's restaurant in Independence for 17 years. She then worked for USD 446 until her retirement in 1991, before and after which, she did domestic work for many families in the area. She was a lifelong member of the Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, serving in all committees and offices, including the Kansas-Nebraska Conference of the Women's Missionary Society and CUFF-Christians United Feeding Friends, among others, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha at Pittsburg State University.
Survivors of Ernestine Daniels include: Her daughter; Lana C. Crowe and her husband Gregory of Kansas City, MO. Two brothers; John Henry Daniels and Lewis Daniels of Independence. An honorary daughter; Hortense Mason of Coffeyville. Three step-grandchildren; Brandon Howard, Mahausha and Kiandra Crowe. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two children; Joneva Renee' and Kalvin James, and three sisters; Lillie Campbell, Ginny Dora, and Daisy Henderson.
