Ron Haugen was a 1962 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a Naval Aviator. He was flying an R&D mission out of Point Mugu, CA when his aircraft malfunctioned. He continued to fly his aircraft while the rest of his crew bailed out. He went down with the aircraft, and his body was not recovered.
