Obituary in The Observer, Charlotte, NC, 1 Apr 2013: Charlotte - Lula Rogers Allen, 100, of Charlotte died Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Lake Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Indian Trail, NC. She was born on Easter, April 7, 1912, in Union County, NC the daughter of the late T. Martin Rogers and Sally B. Rogers. Lula joined Allen Street Baptist Church on June 9, 1926. The church later became Shamrock Baptist Church and is now Grace Crossing. Lula was a faithful and dedicated teacher of the Bible in Sunday school for more than seventy years. She also worked for many years at Jack Sosnik, Ltd. Jewelry on S. Tryon St. in Uptown Charlotte. Lula was preceded in death by her husband, E. Thurston Allen; parents, and brother, U. Monroe Rogers. She is survived by a brother, Jerry T. Rogers and wife, Elaine of Matthews, NC; and their three sons; Jeff Rogers and wife, Tara of Matthews, Charles Rogers and Danny Rogers of Greenville, SC; a niece, Frankie Fincher and husband, Ray of Charlotte; and many other nephews and nieces. A service of celebration to remember Lula's long life will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte NC, 28212 with Rev. Stan Heiser, Associate Senior Pastor of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, officiating the service. A visitation for friends and family will be one hour prior to the service, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to "Now Is the Time" fund at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
