SALISBURY—Sara C. Kelly, 97, of Salisbury died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the home of her daughter. Born Oct. 16, 1915, at home in Reid's Grove in Dorchester County, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Holmes Collins Sr. and Lavinia Olive (Oliphant) Collins. Her husband of 53 years, John Kenneth Kelly, preceded her in death in September 1990.

She was a graduate of Hurlock High School and the Salisbury Normal School, now Salisbury University. She did graduate work at Salisbury State and the University of Maryland. For three years prior to her marriage in 1937, she was a teacher in Prince George's County. She was employed for seven years at the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. and then continued her teaching career at East Salisbury and Delmar elementary schools from 1954 until her retirement in 1976.

She had been a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church since 1938, had served as a member and past president of its Altar Guild, and oriented new Guild members for a number of years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and Kionanians. She began coordinating the United Methodist Women's Reading Program in 1993 and continued until her early 90's.

She was also a member of the State and Wicomico County Retired Teachers Association, national and local AARP, and a former member of the local Institute for Retired Persons.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy and Oliver Collins, and her sister, Aline Howard.

Sara is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kelly of Salisbury; her granddaughter, Kelly Anne (Mumper) Copeland and her husband, Genesis J. Copeland; her great-granddaughter, Mckenna Brooklyn Copeland; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, at Holloway Funeral Home PA in Salisbury. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service. The Revs. Rob Townsend and George Godfrey will officiate. Burial will be in Springhill Memory Gardens, Hebron.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802 or Bethesda United Methodist Church, 406 S. Division St., Salisbury, Md. 21801.
