Fair Haven Register Thurs. Aug. 31, 1916:

"Mrs. Emma pettit, wife of Dorastus
Pettit, Jr., died at her home one mile
east of this village Friday afternoon
at about five o'clock, after a severe
attack of pneumonia of a few days. Her
age was 47 years.

She is survived by the sorrowing husband,
one brother,Mr. John Jackson, and two
sisters, Mrs. William E Wright and Mrs.
Edwin Waldron, all of this vicinity.

The funeral was held at the home Tuesday
afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. J.W.
Briggs, pastor of the M.E. Church,
officiating. An unusually large attendance
showed the high esteem in which she was
held by the community. Burial was made
in Spring Brook cemetery.

There was a large and beautiful display
of flowers,being sent from different
sections.

Miss Leslie Briggs and Mrs. Lloyd Fineout
sang,"Some Sweet Day Bye and Bye."

Those who were in attendance at the funeral
from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Guy
Moulton of Syracuse;Mr. And Mrs. Ward Moulton
of Phoenix; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Bundy and
Lewis Churchill of Minetto; Mrs. Theda
Hannibal and Frank Churchill of Oswego;
Dr. and Mrs. Merwin,Mrs. Alice Sneller
and son, Ray, and Mrs. Mary Moulton of Cicero;
Fred Pettit of Charlotte; Mrs. Eugene Werner
of Buffalo; Arlo Pettit of Huron; Mr. and Mrs.
Clayton Pettit and daughter, Caro, of Gorham;
Mr. and Mrs.Andrew Stoddard of Fulton; Miss
Anna Blake of Normal,Ill.; Mr. and Mrs.
William Atson of Wolcott; Mr. and Mrs. James
Brownell of Red Creek; Prof. and Mrs. W.F.
Downs of Brewerton; Mr. and Mrs. Wm Reed
of Weedsport.

Mrs. Pettit was a woman, who, not only in her
home but among those with whom she mingled,
was possessed with a disposition that won
the respect and admiration of all.She was a
hard working person, her whole ambition being
centered in her home affairs and the aid she
could lend to her friends and all who were in
need of assistance. She was the sole prop of
her husband in his work about the farm and
business in general; his dependence resting
upon her in all his daily duties of life.
She was a faithful and diligent worker in
church and other society affairs and was
always found ready and willing to do all
in her power to help in any worthy cause.
She will be greatly missed, not only in her
home but throughout the whole community, and
her mourners are many. The heart-broken
husband and other relatives have the
deepest sympathy of all in their bereavement.

Mrs. Pettit had been in poor health for
some time, but had been able to attend to
her home duties during the time.A few weeks
ago she went to Sodus Point and spent a week
or more camping with friends. Soon after her
return home she was stricken with a most
severe attack of pneumonia which, despite
every available effort to check its progress,
resulted in her death in a short time. Her
weakened condition together with an affected
heart overcame all medical attention in behalf
of the disease, and when the time came she
passed away peacefully and seemingly free
from pain.

Her death was a shock to all in this section,
as she was a lifelong resident of the place,
and was surrounded by a large circle of friends."
