Dustin Travis West, age 42, of Knoxville and formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 9, 1970, in Louisville, Ky.

Dustin was employed with Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Janitorial Department. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an avid reader and also loved to cook, but his passion was music and playing the drums. In past years, he has played with various bands.

Dustin had a kind heart, a sweet spirit and a gentle soul. He was generous with his time in helping others. He was always willing to help with holiday dinners from cooking to cleaning up. He was very devoted to his family and will be missed by all.

Dustin attended Cedar Hill Elementary School, Jefferson Junior High School and Oak Ridge High School. He graduated from Laurel High School in Knoxville in 1989. While in high school, he worked one summer at Yellowstone National Park. He also had an Engineering degree from Pellissippi State Technical Community College.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Russell West; grandparents, Glenn and Ellen West; Pappaw, John Wallace Precise and best friend Randy Brown.

He is survived by his mother, Kaye Precise Habenschuss and stepfather, Tony Habenschuss, of Oak Ridge; his brother, Rusty West and wife, Shari, of Oak Ridge; sisters, Jennifer West Hill and Laurel West Madden and husband, Edward, all of Oak Ridge; maternal grandmother, Ruth Travis Precise of Oak Ridge; and several nieces and nephews whom he adored, Jessica, Brandon, Stephanie, Aaron, Austin, Logan, Braden, Reagan, Hayleigh, Eden Kyleigh, Ethan, Jackson, Landon and River.

He will be missed by the family pets, on which he lavished his attention. He will also be greatly missed by his bandmates, "pub" family and friends, especially his close friends, Brandon, Scott, Kitt, Tom, Tony and numerous others.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. with Bishop Brent McGavin officiating.
