Donald G. Hall, age 93, died Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Marion General Hospital.
Don was born November 3, 1928 in Marion to the late Clyde and Betty (Ford) Hall. He graduated from Pleasant High School in 1947. He then attended The Ohio State University and also operated a small diner on Marion Waldo Road with his mother. Don met his future wife, Peggy Strope, through mutual friends.
He was drafted in 1950 to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War and went overseas reporting for duty in Germany. While home on leave, he and Peggy were married on May 13, 1951, now just short of 71 years!
When Don was honorably discharged in 1953 he served as a Marion City Police Officer for 8 years and also was a commercial bulk tank milk truck driver prior to beginning a 42 year career with the Marion County Court of Common Pleas. He served as a Deputy, Bailiff, Probation and Parole Officer, Divorce Commissioner and retired in 1992 as Director of Court Services. Don also worked part time as a real-estate broker ("Hall of Homes") and Home Builder.
He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, F.O.P.A. (former State President), Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Gyro, Eagles, VFW, American Legion, Korean War Vets, Marion County Veterans Commissioner, Mason of Grand Lodge #70 (former Grand Master), Shriners(drove a clown parade car), Board of Realtors, Chamber of Commerce, Marion Country Club, OSU Alumni Association, and Rotary (former President).
Don enjoyed their grandchildren and great grandchildren, golfing (including 2 holes in one), OSU Football, summers in Michigan with the Luse family and spending winters in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, a son, of Marion; a daughter of Delaware, OH; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
Don is preceded in death by 4 brothers: Billy, John, Bob and Jerry.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 11:30AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 241 South Prospect Street with Deacon Kevin Kehn officiating; friends may call 1 hour prior to the service from 10:30AM to 11:30AM; burial with Military Honors will follow at Marion Cemetery.
