John "Jack" H. Deviney
Asheville - Jack DeViney, of Asheville, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006.

He was born in Oak Park, Ill., the son of the late Grace and James DeViney. After graduating from Northwestern University and completing his military service, he was a TV director at WRC-TV in Washington, D.C. He then joined the U.S. Information Agency where he retired in 1993 as chief of the WorldNet program. He lived in Asheville for 13 years with his companion and friend, Mary Wylie. In Asheville, he was active at the College for Seniors and the Unitarian Universalist Church. Prior to Asheville, he lived in Gaithersburg, Md.

He is survived by his two sons, Mark DeViney of Wilton, Conn., and Scott DeViney of Vienna, Va., daughter, Lynn Nappo of New York City and three grandchildren.

A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Asheville.
