He was the son of Dickerson and Elizabeth (Mahon) Parris.

He married Elizabeth Bartlett, 26 Nov 1855,Paulding County, Georgia. Two daughters were born to this marriage before he marched off to war.

He enlisted May 10, 1862, "Co K 60th GA Infantry". He died 23 December 1862, while serving at Libby Prison, Richmond, Virginia. He died of disease in the Confederate Hospital there.

In 1869, a 90-foot high granite pyramid was built as a memorial to the more than 18,000 enlisted men of the Confederate Army buried in the Hollywood Cemetery at Richmond. (Photo at right)
