Ruth Frances Burroughs was born April 9, 1921, to Isaiah "Ike" and Rosa (Anliker) Burroughs on a farm near Frederick. She attended school in Frederick.

She married Everett Humphries of Barnard on June 3, 1939, in Aberdeen. They lived on a farm in the Barnard area until 1949, when they moved to Westport. While living there, she was the clerk and assessor of Westport Township. In 1956 she started working the county assessor's office in the courthouse. They moved to Aberdeen in 1960. In 1961 she was appointed director of equalization for Brown County and in 1966 was elected Brown County auditor. He died Sept. 30, 1973. She continued to serve as Brown County auditor until March 1979, when she moved to California and worked as office manager and accountant for a private company. In 1989 she moved back to Aberdeen and worked at Herberger's until she retired in 1994. She served on numerous boards and organizations during her 22 years in the Brown County Courthouse.

Survivors include three sons, Arlen (Ruth) Humphries of Glendale, Ariz., Ronald "Rusty" Humphries of Anchorage, Alaska, and Gaylen Humphries of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Eunice Donahue of Camarillo, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers.

Casketbearers will be Harvey Anliker of Forbes, N.D.; Alvin Anliker, Rick Humphries and Darrell Humphries, all of Aberdeen; Oscar Fuller of Ellendale, N.D.; and Clayton Fischer of Eureka.
