Maria was the wife of Nicholas Zakharenko. She was born in Barnaul, Russia which is the capital of Altai Krai Oblast, Russia. Both changed their names to Gurdin. They were the parents of actresses Natalie Wood and Lana Wood. Cause of death was pneumonia. She is buried in the Serbian Cemetery in Colma, California. Her daughter Olga is buried there too.
