Mrs. Nellie Marshall Bowman, 94, of 1291 Green Spring Road, Ararat, VA, formerly of Bassett, VA, passed away Saturday night, March 30, 2013, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, VA. Mrs. Bowman was born March 3, 1919, in Patrick County, VA, one of twelve children born to the late Clearn and Loudellia Largen Marshall. Nellie worked as a seamer and production associate for many years at Spencer's Inc., Quality Mills, and later retired from Stanleytown Furniture Factory. Mrs. Bowman was a member of Doe Run Baptist Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brother Benny Dean and Kaye Bowman of Bristol, TN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Billy Hawks of Sophia, NC, and Josephine and Waymond Dawson of Ararat, VA; eight grandchildren, Doug Hawks, Belinda Peace, Wanette Sims, Pam Rutherford, Donna Hawks, Phillip Dawson, Danny Dawson, and John Bowman; eleven great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Marshall Thompson of Mount Airy, NC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William Chestley "Will" Bowman; three grandchildren, Dennis Dean Bowman, Stephen Leonard Bowman, and Pansy Faith Dawson; four sisters, Earnie Quesinberry, Mary Mankins, Haley Fowler, and Hattie Bowman; and six brothers, an infant brother, Sherman Marshall, Jesse Marshall, Cannie Marshall, Frank Marshall, and Clinton Marshall. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, NC, with the Rev. Rayton Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
