Elwood Egelston, 86, of Salem died Monday.

He was born in Kamiah, Idaho, and graduated from George Fox College. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was an educator in many cities, including St. Helens. He was professor of education administration at Illinois State University for 17 years. He retired in 1979 and moved to Salem. He was a member of many educational associations and was the major advisor to 37 doctoral dissertations. He won awards in photography and enjoyed world travel. His wife, Marguerite (Nordyke), whom he married in 1936, died in 1998. A brother and a sister preceded him in death.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Salem First Presbyterian Church where he was a member. Private interment will be at Mount Crest Abbey Mausoleum. Arrangements are by City View Funeral Home. Contributions: Dr. Elwood F. Egelston Scholarship Fund at Illinois State University or George Fox Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund.
