Caution: the first name is listed as "Clarinda" in the Jefferson County death records and Evergreen cemetery listings, but it can be found in various census reports and at least one obituary with variations, such as "Clorinda". Will use the "Clarinda" first name for this memorial but with caution. Unfortunately, she does not have a headstone or inscription in the Chidester/Ross family plot.

Born in Canfield, Trumbull county, Ohio, which has since been merged into Mahoning county, Ohio.

Wife of Clark Sackett Chidester, married Feb. 23, 1843 in Trumbull county, Ohio. They had three children - am trying to locate son Ensign. Not sure if he died and is buried in Ohio or perhaps Illinois. Any clarification about him would be appreciated.

Editors Ledger :- Clarinda Sackett was born May 1st, 1820, and was married to Clark Chidester May 3d, 1843. Three children were born of this union - Sim E., with whom she lived on the farm nine miles northwest of Fairfield, Frank G. of Fairfield, and Ensign, who died in childhood. In 1863 they moved from Canfield, O., to Mercer county, Ill. In 1867 they came to Jefferson county, where she died March 22d, aged 81 years, 10 months and 22 days. At an early age Mrs. Chidester united with the Christian church, and through all her life remained a devoted and consecrated member. Mrs. Chidester was noted for her great kindness of heart and her unselfish devotion to the wants of others. She was patient and resigned to the will of God in all her sufferings and by her numerous friends and neighbors, and this was manifest by the large assemblage which attended her funeral. The last sad rites were held at the family residence, conducted by Rev. Leander Lane, assisted by Rev. Herrington. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
