GENEVIEVE ELLIS CAMPBELL
Genevieve Ellis Campbell age 92 of Edina, Missouri, passed away Monday morning, August 18, 1997, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
Born September 27, 1904, at Des Moines, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Virgil Hone Campbell who preceded her in death on March 17, 1993.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Ellis, Sr. and two sisters, Virginia Ellis and Hopkins Ellis.
Surviving are one son, Colin C. Campbell and wife, Ann Sue of Edina, Missouri; two granddaughters, Sarah Rudd and husband, Darrell of Hurdland, Missouri and Mary Campbell of Columbia, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Joe and Justin Rudd and one nephew, Charles Ellis of Fairfield, Connecticut.
Mrs. Campbell was a 1926 graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a degree in horticulture. She was a certified landscape architect and was employed by Stark Brothers Nursery of Louisiana, Missouri, for a number of years prior to her marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell resided south of Edina and were engaged in livestock breeding. They traveled extensively, which included the Arctic Circle to the Panama Canal.
He love and nurture of young people was made evident by her involvement in their activities. She was a volunteer of 4-H youth activities for over thirty years. She was the recipient of many awards including being named to the Leaders Honor Roll in 1974, by the University of Missouri.
Genevieve was a charter member of the Mt. Carmel Extension Club, established in 1934. In 1935, she organized the Van Horn Extension Club and recently was honored at their anniversary celebration. She served in many capacities with various extension councils and was named to the Homemakers Circle in 1934.
