Alma graduated from Mississippi State College for Women, then in 1919 attended with her spouse, the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. She was a devoted minister's wife at Fayette, Union Church and Biloxi and Jacinto City, Texas. Alma resided in Jackson while her husband was a department director with the Mississippi Baptist Convention. Mrs. Hodge specialized in Sunday school work with grade school children and wrote many articles for national church publications. She was active in all church ministries, especially visitation and missions, and had a close friendship with many missionaries. She and the Reverend Hodge retired to Ocean Springs in 1962 and were members of the First Baptist Church..
Mrs. Hodge was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Grover C. Hodge. In her remaining years, she lived with and was cared for by her son, Bill, and daughter-in-law, June Hodge.
Alma was a World War II Gold Star Mother having lost a son, Lt. Grover C. Hodge Jr. (1919-1942) who died in Labrador while ferrying a B-26 bomber across the North Atlantic.
Mrs. Hodge was survived by a son, William T. Hodge (b. 1923) of Ocean Springs, and a daughter, Alma Hodge Rose (b. 1930) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; a brother, the Reverend John P. Simmons of Aliceville, Alabama; grandchildren, Marilyn Lowe of Jackson, Dr. Marsha Solomon of Carrollton, Georgia, Pamela Rose of Franklin, Tennessee, Roger Rose of Athens, Greece and Palm beach, Florida, John C. Rose of Franklin, Tennessee, and Rebecca DeFrancesco of Port Richey, Florida; and Eric and Christopher Lowe of Jackson.
Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home of Biloxi directed the funeral services of Mrs. Hodge. Burial was in Southern Memorial Park.
