Frank Miller Austin, 91, of Baytown, passed away Friday March 29th, 2013 after a short but tough battle with cancer. Frank was born February 23rd, 1922 in Longview, Texas.

Frank graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston, Texas in 1940 and attended Tyler Junior College. He enlisted in the Marine Corps. in Atlanta, Georgia August 13, 1942 after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Frank was a member of the 1st Provisional Marine Battalion stationed at Naval Operating Base Londonderry, Northern Ireland from 1942 to 1944. After that he was stationed at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina from 1944 to 1945 where he trained dogs as part of the 1st War Dog Platoon (FMF-PAC). In 1945 he was reassigned to the 6th Marine Division for the invasion of Japan but the war ended as he was on a train to San Francisco to embark for the Western Pacific Theatre.

Frank married Constance Joyce Bartels on August 29th, 1946 in Bossier City, Louisiana. They moved around for work before settling in Baytown in 1952. Frank worked for Humble Oil Refinery in Baytown and Sterling Chemicals in Texas City as a pipe draftsman before retiring in 1994.

Until his health prevented him from doing so, Frank enjoyed going for walks every day, traveling, fishing, and attending Lee High School football and baseball games.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Miller and Nina Mary Austin, one brother, Donald Mac Austin, and two sisters, Frances Mildred Seigle and Sybil Marguerite Sullivan.

Frank is survived by his wife of 67 years, Constance Joyce Austin; sons Larry Austin (Joyce) of Santa Fe, Terry Austin (Rosie) of Baytown, and Billy Austin (Rhonda) of Houston; one daughter Frances Thompson of Baytown; grandchildren Jennifer Koenig (David) of Taylor Lake Village, Kimberly May of Baytown, KK Holloway (Scott) of Mexia, Amy Austin of Channelview, SGT Aaron Austin (Konkista) of Fort Campbell, KY, Kendall Thompson-Kinsey (SPC Colin T.) of Fort Drum, NY, Christopher Thompson of Lumberton, and Kody Austin of Houston; great grandchildren Tanner, Hayden, and Ashlyn Koenig, Talon and Piper May, Coker and Hunt Holloway, Justin Gill, Jonathan White, Destany and Isaiah Gonzales, and Austin Matthew Kinsey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday April 2nd from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be Wednesday April 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Cedarcrest Cemetery with Rev. Bill Ingram officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers are SGT Aaron Austin, Christopher Thompson, Kody Austin, SPC Colin Kinsey, Billy Holt, Mark Bowers, Klein Lander, and Gordon Sanderson.

The family would like to thank Faith Community Hospice, SEV Home Care Incorporated, and caregivers Nanette Bernard, Norma Garcia, and Betty Hadnot with Innovative Nurses and Sitters for all of their care and compassion for Mr. Austin.
