NEWELL MOURNS PASSING OF TWO LONG RESIDENTS:
Mrs. N. M. Layman and Mrs. Grace Avery Called by Death Within Past Week.

NEWELL--Laura Belle Turner, daughter of Joshua and Elmira Corley Turner, was born at Buena Vista, Bedford county, PA. Aug 13, 1861 and passed away April 9, 1937 aged 75 years, seven months and 27 days.

She was one of a family of nine children of whom only three are living, two brothers, Will and George of Frostburg, MD and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Wester of West Virginia.

She married Norval Mason Layman March 29, 1885 at Frostburg, MD. to this union on June 1, 1886 a daughter was born, who only lived a short time.

About two years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Layman came to Iowa where they have lived for 50 years, 37 of them being spent in Newell.

GOLDEN WEDDING:
Two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Layman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, the community rejoicing with them in this happy event. The many tokens given them at this time evidenced the love and esteem which the community has for them. Blessed are the people who are privileged to live together through 50 years of loving devotion.

She leaves to mourn her passing her very devoted husband, two brothers and a sister, nieces and nephews and many sincere friends.

FUNERAL MONDAY:
The funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home and from the Methodist church in Newell in charge of her pastor the Rev. Mr. Wilkinson. Due to the fact that a brother was delayed in arriving the burial was postponed until Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock.

Mrs Layman was a member of Buena Vista Rebekah Lodge of Newell for the past 33 years. The sister members attended in a body and gave the beautiful ritualistic service at the grave.

A quartet composed of Mrs. Ben Eno, Mrs. O.A. Baskerville, Lyle Smith and Frank Witter and Mrs. Frank Witter at the piano, sang "Abide With Me," "Just Beyond the Hilltops" and "Good Morning up There".
