On Palm Sunday, March 24th. 2013, Verlyn "Bill" Stalets, 86 was called by Jesus while he slept to the Heavenly Home of our Lord. He was born in his home on July 22nd, 1926 in Pana, Illinois and was the fifth of six siblings in his family. He is survived by his wife Irene, sons Tom and Scott, Scott's wife Valerie, and their daughter, Meredith. Also his youngest sibling, Shirley Polley who resides in Decatur, Illinois. He graduated from Duke University in 1947 with a degree in accounting. After graduation, he served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. In 1952, he married Irene Coady from Taylorville, Illinois. They moved to Grand Prairie in 1954 where he worked as a C.P.A. at LTV Aerospace for over 30 years. He was also a proud, charter member of the newly started Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. It was just last summer Bill and Irene celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 4th with friends and family at the Arlington Ball Park Sheraton. Bill was never without a smile, joke, or kind word, and always with a song to sing. He was full with the joy of life. He was always ready to help a friend in need and as a result had many from every age and occupation. Even in later years when faced with several life threatening afflictions, he bravely faced and overcame them all and with never a complaint heard from him. He appreciated life and made the most out of every day. His hobby was jogging and he ran in many Turkey Trots and White Rock Marathons. He also greatly loved attending Bible study and Mass at the Chapel of the Holy Sisters of Nazareth. He considered the Sisters who reside there, as well as his fellow members of the Associates Group as some of his closest friends and companions. He also volunteered at church on Saturday mornings at the St. Vincent DePaul charity. He truly lived his life, as God would want us all to do. His Sunday morning breakfasts at the Pioneer Cafe with his friends were greatly anticipated every week and where he joyfully greeted all with kind words and song from the servers to the busboys. However, he was by far the happiest when spending time with his family, daughter-in-law Valerie, and especially his granddaughter Meredith. He took the greatest pleasure in the simplest things in life. There are not enough hours or words to convey how much we loved him and how so very badly we will miss his smiling face, songs, and laughter. He was a joy to know and we will forever thank God for letting us have him for so many years. We look forward to being reunited with him again for eternity. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Church in Grand Prairie. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will take place at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Rosary will be said at 6pm on Monday, April 1, 2013, at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, Belt Line Chapel. Visitation will follow from 7pm - 8pm.
