Virgil Wayne Cooper, son of John and Millie Mart Cooper, was born 23 November 1914 at Morton Mills, Montgomery, Iowa. He grew up in Farragut, Iowa where he attended school. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army.

On August 21, 1963, Virgil was united in marriage with Gertrude V. Rhodesat, Raton, New Mexico. They made their home in Colorado where Virgil had lived ever since.

Virgil was a member of the Amvets, and American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers John, Elmer, and Asa; and one sister Mae. He is survived by his wife Gertrude, two sons Jack and Bill; one stepson Harold Maddox; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers Harold and Everett Cooper, both of Riverton; two sisters Goldie Hatten, Ruth Wenger; a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Virgil died Sunday, March 29, 1981 at Saint Anthony’s Hospital, Denver, Colo, at the age of 66 years.

Military rites were conducted by the William-Jobe-Gibson American Legion Post 128 of Sidney, Iowa
