In May of 1968, at 98 years of age, Martha Jane Tilson-Farnor was commemorated by The Erwin Record as Unicoi County's mother of the year for mother's day. She was a life-long resident of the Clear Branch community living on her farm until she died the following year. Husband, D. P. Farnor, died in 1951. Before her death, Martha Jane had 30 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She told the reporter she enjoyed making hoop rugs and gardening.
