Ellen Joy Sorenson Eliason Burris passed away at McKay Dee hospital in Ogden, Utah, on March 28, 2013, due from complications of a stroke. Joy was born on May 12, 1936, in Hyrum, Utah. Joy was one of five children born to Ione Carlson and Pierre Sorenson.

Joy was married to Ray Eliason on July 31, 1956, in the Logan LDS temple. They had 35 wonderful years together before his passing on Feb. 11, 1991. Later, she was married to Deloy Burris on April 23, 1994. They had 9 beautiful years together before his passing on Aug. 31, 2003.

Joy worked at Utah State University as the textbook manager before retiring in 1996. She was also active in many organizations including Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Emeriti, and Ex Libris. She was also an ordinance worker in the Logan LDS temple.

Joy was a sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, but most of all a friend to everyone. She loved her neighbors and loved serving others. In fact, she served up until the day she became ill. One of the things Joy cherished most was her getaways with the "GIRLS," as she referred to her good friends. She will be missed for many things, but mostly for her beautiful smile, sparkling eyes and her non-judgmental manner she shared with everyone. To her family and friends, she was properly named, as she brought and still will bring so much "JOY" and happiness in our lives.

Joy is preceded in death by her mother Ione Carlson, her father Pierre, her sister Renae Peterson, her husband Ray Eliason and her second husband Deloy Burris. She is survived by two sisters, Valoy and Tamara, and one brother Lynn. In addition, her children Dave Eliason and wife Corinne, her daughter Suzanne Bodrero and husband Dan, her son James Eliason and wife Laura, and daughter Jill Stenquist and husband Wade. At the time of passing, Joy also had 14 grandchildren: Joe, Jake, Geneva, Amy, Mandy, Haley, Ben, Derrick, Kylie, Sam, Mitchell, Jenna, Eddie and Logan, along with eight great-grandchildren and four step-children.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Hillcrest chapel, 875 N. 1500 East, Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held the night before from 6 to 8 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St. in Logan and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hillcrest chapel prior to the funeral. Joy will be laid to rest in the Logan Cemetery.
