Mrs. Frances Odella Smith, wife of Edward E. Smith, was born in Jasper county, Ind. April 11th 1870, died in Rensselaer, Ind. Feb. 10th, 1906, aged 35 years, 10 months and 29 days. She was the second child in a family of seven children, of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Lewis, and i8s the first of them to depart. Her father died in 1903, bur her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis, is still living in Johnson county, Ind.
She married in this county to Edward E. Smith, Dec. 17, 1887, and with him moved to Englewood in 1887, and which place has been their home ever since.
Her husband survives her and three sons, Leroy Holton age 16, Raymond Howard, age 5, and Lesley Lewis, age one year and 10 months.
Her surviving sisters and brothers are Mrs. Moria Donlinger, of Jackson Co., Ind., Mrs. Edith Stiles, of Chenoa, Ill., Mrs. Maggie Smith, of Rensselaer, Miss Elcie Lewis, and J.W. and Orson Lewis, all of Chicago.
She united with the United Brethern Church when a child and on removing to Chicago, she united with the M.E. Church, at South Englewood and remained a faithful member until her death.
She was a prominent member of Hive No. 8?0 of the Ladies of the Macabes, having been commande4r of the Hive for two terms and was past commander of at the time of her death. The member of the hive showed the high respect in which they held her by 14 members coming o t her funeral. The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 12th, at Trinity M.E. church by Rev. H. L. Kindig. Interment was made in Weston Cemetery.
