Apart from six poems published under a pseudonym, none of his poetry appeared in his lifetime. Thomas served in the British Army during World War I and was killed in the Battle of Arras. His "Collected Poems", including the classics "Old Man", "Adlestrop", and "The Glory", were published in 1920.
