Joe Melvin Lyons, age 80 of El Dorado, passed from this life on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at The Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado. He was born on December 16, 1932 in Union County to the late Delno Lyons and Minnie Ophelia (Harris) Lyons. Joe worked for El Dorado Foundry for 13 years. He then started working for Great Lake Chemical, serving 31 years before his retirement. He loved being outdoors, especially if he were squirrel hunting. Joe was a member of The Caledonia Baptist Church and was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother and Friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Randy Lyons and Brother, Milton Lyons.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, of 61 years, Stella Lyons of El Dorado; one son, Gerald Lyons and wife Janine of El Dorado; two grandsons, Jeff Lyons and wife Michelle of Junction City, Nicholas Lyons and wife Leslie of Bella Vista, AR; three granddaughters, Kimberly Vines of El Dorado, Brandi Lyons of Bella Vista and Sarah Pennison of Ruston, LA; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Otwell and husband Harold of Junction City, Glenda Elam and husband Benny of El Dorado; daughter in law, Beverly Lyons of El Dorado also, numerous other extended family and a host of friends.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Bailey Funeral Home.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013 at First Assembly of God Church in El Dorado, with Bro. Al Womack Officiating, assisted by Bro. Hugh Nelson and Bro. Robert Lyons. Burial will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado. The family asks that Memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Union County Babe Ruth Baseball League
