Don Reid Neal, 82, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born August 19, 1930 in Guilford County to Ernest Marvin and Dorothy Mae Hester Neal. Don was a faithful member of Belews Creek Christian Church. He helped organize the Belews Creek Volunteer Fire Department and was elected their First Fire Chief in 1963. He served on the Board of Directors as long as his health permitted. He was Forsyth County Fire Department Association President from 1966-1967. He worked for the NC Department of Transportation for 48 years, retiring in June 1995 as Equipment Superintendent, Division Nine, in Winston-Salem. He married Thelma Maxine Parham, the love of his life on July 15, 1950. Together, they had one daughter, Kathy, born on June 26, 1952. A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Belews Creek Christian Church with his dear friend and pastor, Rev. Larry Neal and longtime friend, Pastor Herb Mabe officiating. Burial will follow in the Neal Cemetery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Maxine Parham Neal, and son-in-law, Raeford Moyer Smith. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Neal Smith, with whom he lived; grandson, Brian Raeford Smith and wife Ashley; three aunts, Lois Neighbors, Pearl Hester and Mildred Neal. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Burroughs Funeral Home in Walnut Cove and other times at the home.
