CHARLES "BILL" JOHNSON, of Friendswood, Texas passed away March 27, 2013 in League City, Texas.

He was born May 30, 1927 in Powhatan Point, Ohio to Charles and Martha Johnson and was raised in Quaker City, Ohio. Bill joined the United States Navy and proudly served our country on the Destroyer Escort USS Coolbaugh during World War II. Bill then enrolled in college and graduated from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. Bill would begin his teaching career in Front Royal, Virginia at Randolph Macon Military Academy for one year. He then moved on to Temple Hills, Maryland and was the devoted Oxon Hill High School Band Director for 30 years. To this day, his family continues to receive countless phone calls, cards, letters, etc. from his former students, all of which hold Mr. Johnson in the highest regard. His family is in awe of the impact that Mr. Johnson still has on his students to this day. After his retirement Bill and Nancy moved to Friendswood, Texas in 2006 to be with his daughter. Although Bill was raised in the Methodist Church he later in life joined the Episcopal Church.

Bill married Nancy Faye Pyles on August 17, 1957 in Oxon Hill, Maryland and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2010. He is also preceded in death by his son Dennis William Johnson on July 28, 1990.

Bill leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Susan Barbour and her husband William of Friendswood, Texas; son David Johnson and his wife Bonnie of Mt. Airy, Maryland; brother Lester Johnson and his wife Martha Ann; grandchildren Nicholas Johnson and Samantha Johnson.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Cole officiating. Graveside services will be Monday, April 1, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery.
