After months of suffering from heart trouble, Mrs. Hester Buchanan, 81, and a pioneer, died at the home of her son, Orlando Buchanan, two miles east of Chelsea, June 9. The funeral will be held Sunday from the Methodist Church at Chelsea, conducted by Rev. O. W. Brown, the pastor, followed by interment in Chelsea Cemetery.

Mrs. Buchanan is survived by six children, Charles, Orlando, Lorenzo Buchanan and John Buchanan of California; Mrs. Minerva Kitzelman, El Dorado and Mrs. Augusta Lawson, Stillwater, Okla. She also leaves one brother, Gus Deaver, Whittier, Cali., and one sister, Mrs. Nancy Franklin, Fairfield, Iowa. (Walnut Valley Times, June 10, 1916)
