Son of Ira and Cynthia (Bishop) Richardson.

On 17 Apr 1864 Ira mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry having received a bounty of $325, being credited to the quota of Marshfield, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He was 17 years and 4 months old.

On 27 Jul 1864 Ira was transferred to Company K, of the 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, and in Aug 1864 he was wounded. Ira ended his service on 9 Jun 1865.

On 7 Jan 1868 Ira, 21, married Martha A. Davis, daughter of Jonathan and Almira Davis, at St. Johnsbury, Caledonia County, Vermont. They had six children.

Ira died on 9 May 1911 at Littleton, Grafton County, New Hampshire, of carcenoma of the jaw. He was 64 years, 4 months and 22 days old.
