Reese was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving his country during World War II and the Korean War. He served 32 years with the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1972.

Mr. Phillips was instrumental in the planning and development of the Delaware Veterans Cemeteries, now in operation in Bear and Millsboro, and was most recently involved with the planning stages of the proposed site of the veterans home to be built in Milford.

He was a life member of Walter L. Fox Post 2 in Dover, De., a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, a commissioner with Veterans Affairs in Dover and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Milford, Delaware.

Son of Theophilus Phillips and Mary Ann Harriet (Bacon) Phillips.

Grandson of Samuel Bacon, Jr. and Anna (Tolley) Bacon and William and Mary (Reese) Phillips.

Husband of Kumiko Sato Phillips.
