The entire community was shocked by the sudden death of Mr. Peter J. Bardill, 56 years old, who was killed in the Southern Railway yards here Friday night, August 7, at 6 o'clock. In some manner he fell from a car upon which he was standing.

Mr. Bardill was born June 3, 1875, at Wartburg, Tennessee, son of C. and Edith Bardill. He was married March 22, 1903, to Miss Elizabeth Keeton and to this union three children were born.

Mr. Bardill was an employee of the Southern Railway for 35 years and at the time of his death was switch foreman. He was a member of the following lodges, B of R.T., Jr. O U A M., K.P., M W A., and B.A.R.E. He joined the Lutheran Church at the age of 16.

He leaves a widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Keeton Bardill and three children, Mrs. Howard Barnett of Ludlow, Flonnie Bardill, Somerset, and Mr. Fred Bardill of Wartburg; his father, C. Bardill of Wartburg; and four brothers, Fritz, Gus, Walter, and Mark Bardill, of Wartburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Bingham and Mrs. Katie Mehlehorn of Oakdale.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. T.C. Duke at the High Street Baptist Church Monday afternoon. Interment was in the City Cemetery.

Mr. P.J. Bardill, 56 years of age, for more than 35 years an employee of the Southern Railroad, was instantly killed Friday night, August 7th, when he fell from a box car, while at work at the Ferguson shops. Mr. Bardill was switch foreman. No one saw him fall, it is said. Just how the accident occurred is not known, but it is thought he lost his balance. He was dead when picked up.

Mr. Bardill was one of the most popular employees of the Southern Railway here. He entered the employ of the Southern in 1896 and by hard work and faithful service had climbed to the position of switch foreman.

The deceased was born June 3, 1875, at Wartburg, Tennessee, son of C. and Edith Bardill. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Keeton, March 22, 1903. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive. He leaves a wife, one son, Fred Bardill; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Barnett, of Ludlow, and Miss Flonnie Bardill, of Somerset; his father, C. Bardill, of Wartburg, Tennessee; four brothers, Fritz, Gus, Mark and Walter, and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Bingham, of Oakdale, and Mrs. Katie Mehlehorn, of Oakdale.

At the age of 16 he joined the Lutheran church.. He was also a member of the B. of R.T., Junior Order United American Mechanics, M.W. of A., Knights of Pythias and B.A.R.E.
