Ruth Laura (Holman) Workman, 93, a resident of Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, died April 2, 2005, at William Newton Hospital, Winfield, KS.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Memorials in Ruth¹s name may be made to the Kay Workman Endowed Scholarship Fund of Southwestern College, Grandview United Methodist Church and the Cumbernauld Village Employee Appreciation Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Ruth was born March 28, 1912, in Geuda Springs, in the Rainbow Bend Community, the ninth child of Pinkie Blanche (Cassidy) and W.E. Holman. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1930.

She and Kenneth R. Workman married April 21, 1935, in Winfield. The couple made their home in Grandview throughout their marriage. Ruth helped her husband on the family farm.

She received her bachelor¹s degree from Southwestern College in 1970. She taught at the Green Valley one room school and later taught at Akron and then for USD 465 at Lowell Elementary. She retired from Lowell following several years of service.

The Workmans had resided at the family home, K & R Farms, since 1950. Mr. Workman preceded her in death Oct. 2, 1989. Ruth had been a resident of Cumbernauld Village since 1991.

She was a member of Grandview United Methodist Church and the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary. Her hobbies included her children, grandchildren and gardening.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Kay Leon Workman, her brothers, Oral, Orville, Paul, Verne, Everitt and Jay; and her sisters, Anna, Frances and Relina.
