Marie Leavitt Goldston, beloved wife of Thomas Warren Goldston, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2010. Mrs. Goldston was born January 25, 1926 to Claude Forrest Leavitt and his wife, Mary J. Buchanan Leavitt, longtime residents of Moore County, N.C. After graduation from Pinehurst High School in 1943, Mrs. Goldston completed her training as a registered nurse at the Rex School of Nursing in 1946. After her marriage to Mr. Goldston in 1947, Mrs. Goldston chose to devote her time and energy to her husband and two children as a homemaker and caregiver. In that role she enjoyed cooking with traditional family recipes, gardening, and, later, spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Warren Goldston of Raleigh; son, Forrest W. Goldston of Raleigh; daughter, Lorie Goldston Garland and husband, Bobby G. Garland of Boca Raton, Florida; and three grandchildren: Marine L.Cpl. Michael Wade and wife, Meagan, of New Bern, N.C; Robert G. Garland III and Rachel Garland, both of Boca Raton, Florida. Mrs. Goldston was pre-deceased by her three siblings: Alvin E. Leavitt of Raleigh; Laura L. Morrison of Louisville, Kentucky; and Jean L. Brooks of Albemarle, N.C. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, November 5, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 4900 Kaplan Drive, Raleigh. Funeral services will be held at the church on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Montlawn Memorial Park.
