Our family patriarch, Brent Gardner Abbott, age 96, slipped from this life into eternity on March 23, 2013 at his home in Herriman, Utah, surrounded by the family that loved him so dearly.

Born January 31, 1917 in Cedar City, Utah, the eldest of eleven children born to George Nathan and Rosa Leanora Gardner Abbott. He grew up and attended schools in Bunkerville & Mesquite NV and St. George, UT, where he eventually met the love of his life, Norma Webb. Following a one year courtship, they married in the St. George Temple on October 20, 1936.

Brent and Norma made their home in Reno, NV where they raised their four children: Kelton, Judy, Richard and Rosemary. Brent spent over 40 years selling life insurance for Occidental Life. That career afforded them the opportunity of traveling all over the world - a pass time that they very much enjoyed. While in Reno, he was active on the School Board, Lions Club and Rotary. A gifted musician, Brent sang at weddings, funerals, church functions, and many other occasions where his rich tenor voice was often requested. He sang Barbershop which brought him and everyone who had the pleasure of listening to him great joy and happiness. A stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brent served in many positions including that of Bishop, Stake High Councilman, and missionary with his wife, Norma, in the Philippines Cagayan de Oro Mission from 1988 - 1990. He also worked in the Oakland, CA, Reno, NV, and Oquirrh Mountain, UT Temples.

In June of 2000, Norma passed away and part of Brent went with her. He longed to be with her again. How sweet that reunion was on Saturday evening! In 2009, Brent moved to Herriman and we are grateful for the opportunity we had to care for him in his last years. His greatest joy came from being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

Survived by his children: Kelton, Judy, Richard, Rosemary; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings: Max Abbott, Keith Abbott, Mary Johnson, Myron Abbott, Royal Abbott, Richard Abbott. Preceded in death by his wife, Norma; sisters, Hermese Thiess, Maxine Mott; infant brothers, Wesley & David Owen.

A viewing will be held Monday, April 1, 2013, at the LDS Church. Entombment will follow at the in the Mountain View Mausoleum, Reno, NV.
