He was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Wheaton, the son of Erle and Elsie Yarbrough, and had lived in Elgin the past 25 years.
He had been employed by Chicago area race tracks for 24 years, and had been a teacher and a coach at Burlington High School until 1963.
He was a member of American Legion Post 57 of Elgin.
Surviving are his wife, Vera (Be); two sons, Robert of Sugar Grove and Douglas of Elgin; his mother, Elsie of Wheaton; a stepson, Gordon Schmidt of Evansville, Ind.; five grandchildren and a brother, Howard of Port Richey, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Stout funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Willis A. Reed officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dr. Simon Cardiac Care Unit at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
