Mrs. W. H. Logsdon, a long time and well known resident of this city, died at the home of her son, Earl Logsdon, in Springfield, Saturday night, October 1, at 8 o'clock, following an illness of several weeks, aged 80 years, 3 months and 27 days.
Maria Louisa Clark, daughter of the late David and Sarah Clark, was born in Waverly, June 4, 1858. She attended the district schools and grew to young womanhood, admired and respected by her associates for the splendid traits of character which adorned her young life.
On October 4, 1875, she was united in marriage with William Henry Logsdon, and to this union were born five children, four of whom survive, namely: Mrs. Lela Duey, of Springfield; Frank, of Ozark, Arkansas; Elbert and Earl, of Springfield. She is also survived by four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
During her long life, Mrs. Logsdon with her husband resided in a number of central Illinois cities, including Springfield, Jacksonville and Girard, as well as Waverly. Many years ago, soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Logsdon resided in Waverly for several years, and then after an absence of a number of years, they returned to the city of her birth, where they resided happily until Mr. Logsdon's death, which occurred in December 1935, since which time Mrs. Logsdon has made her home a part of the time in Waverly, and part of the time with her son, Earl and his wife, in Springfield, where she received every attention possible for her comfort.
At the age of about fifteen years, she united with the Waverly Christian church, and for 65 years has been a most earnest and devoted member of the church, holding membership in the different places where she resided, but always and everywhere lived the life of a true Christian woman. She was a friend and dependable neighbor, ever lending a helping hand where needed.
The funeral services were held at the Waverly Christian church Monday afternoon at 2:30, in charge of the pastor, Rev. W. M. Groves.
Burial was in East cemetery.
