Known as ANDY in the D.C. area and LEMOIN or "Lemon" in Pennsylvania, Andrew Lemoin Dixon was born January 23, 1924, in Wallaceton, PA, to William B. Dixon and Jessie B. (nee Frye) Dixon. He was the youngest of 4 sons and a graduate of Phillipsburg High School - Class of 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army the day after graduation.

Following basic training at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio TX, and additional specialized training, Andy served as a radio operator/navigator in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Serving in the China-Burma-India theatre he was stationed in Shamshenagar, India. While there he helped deliver high-octane gasoline to Chengtu, China to supply the (Flying Tigers) 10th & 14th U.S. Army Air Corps and the Chinese Air Corps. He received the "distinguished flying cross" medal with more than 100 missions navigating the world's highest mountain range – the Himalaya's - aka "The Hump." Corporal Dixon was honorably discharged at the end of the war.

On November 17, 1945 he married his sweetheart, Phyllis W. (nee Houston) Dixon and moved to Washington, D.C. Together they had five (5) children that grew up in Oxon Hill and Friendly, Maryland.

After WWII, Mr. Dixon went to college on the G.I. Bill and graduated, in 1951, from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina where he obtained a B.A. degree in Bible with a minor in History. He was ordained at Hatch Memorial Baptist Church, Taylors, South Carolina.

In 1964, he was an accounting specialist at GSA -General Services Administration. From there he worked as a computer specialist for HEW - Health, Education and Welfare. After Ronald Reagan was elected President, Andy went to work in the newly formed Department of Education. For twenty years he served as the administrator and leader of the "weekly noontime devotions" for federal employees.

During the 1960's (as a bi-vocational pastor) Reverend Dixon helped to start churches in Wheaton, Maryland; Lewes, Delaware and Strasburg, Virginia. As a member of Allentown Baptist Church, Camp Springs, Maryland he served as leader of the Christian Service Brigade (a faith-based ministry to teenage boys), trustee, deacon, and a long time Sunday school teacher.

In the 1980's, as pastor of Faith Baptist Church of Alexandria, he was involved in the Rapidan Baptist Camp and Conference Center in Rochelle, VA. Andy took early government retirement at the end of 1984 to be available to his wife who was battling cancer. Phyllis graduated to heaven on October 12, 1985.

On December 5, 1987 Mr. Dixon married Lena E. Howell (nee Parrish). After moving to Accokeek, MD they joined First Baptist Church. The couple enjoyed singing with the "Solid Rock" senior saints at Groveton Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. Andy and Lena were together for 22 years until her passing in 2009.

From 2009 – 2013, Andy resided at Sunrise and most recently Spring Hills Assisted Living facilities, both located in Alexandria, Virginia.

Andrew Lemoin Dixon was 89 years old at the time of his passing and was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, his wife Phyllis H. Dixon and his second wife Lena E. Dixon.

Mr. Dixon is survived by his five children: David M. Dixon and wife Patricia of Lorton, VA; M. Keith Dixon of Springfield, VA; Thomas A. Dixon of Mechanicsville, VA; Karen A. Crowell and husband Kevin of Harpers Ferry, WV and Norman P. Dixon of Centreville, VA. He has six (6) grandchildren: David A. Dixon and wife Krystal of Alexandria, VA; Ryan M. Dixon and wife Traci of Tyler, TX; Jenna A. Scarborough and husband Michael of Goose Creek, SC; Ross Dixon and wife Breanna of Minneapolis, MN; Jacob A. Dixon of Mechanicsville, VA and Bishop J. Crowell of Harpers Ferry, WV. He also had three (3) great-granddaughters: Addison and Kamryn Dixon of Tyler, TX and Olivia Scarborough of Goose Creek, SC. He is also survived by Lena's two daughters: Wilma Hall with husband Ron of Fairfax, VA and Diane Lamb, along with their children and numerous nieces and nephews.


Relatives and friends are invited to Andy's Life Celebration on Saturday, March 30 from 9am until time of services at 10am at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME,6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment will follow at 2:30pm at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Shrewsbury, PA.
