Rosa Lawrence journeyed on to her next life on March 23, 2013, at her home in Bridgeport, MI. She was born on December 3, 1931 to the late Columbus and Ora Hicks in Braggs (Lowndes County), Alabama.

Rosa married the late Robert Lawrence, moving to Saginaw, MI, and from this union, six children were born.

Rosa received her education in the Lowndes County Public School system. Rosa loved the Lord, joining the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Saginaw, MI, where she had been a faithful member until her death. She was a member of the nursing ministry and the gamma flock.

She retired from General Motors. During her work career, she also worked for Saginaw High School, Weichman and Winklman clothing stores, and as a seamstress. She was a member of the UAW, played on a bowling league (avg. 200), enjoyed sewing, working in her garden, and played "tonk" against anyone who tried to challenge in her favorite card game.

Rosa was a very loving and giving woman, who unselfishly put her family and friends before herself. However, her passion was her clothes. She loved her suits and matching hats. She was a "WOMAN OF STYLE".

She leaves to mourn her passing, her siblings, Willie (Jabo) Hicks (Minnie B), Hattie Henry (Harold) and Beatrice Bender (Jim Henry); her children, Jacqueline Lawrence, Patricia Grable (Tyrone), Pamela Lawrence and Robert Ellis Lawrence (Maggie); her ten grandchildren; Reginald, Dia, Victor, Jamica, Quincy, Savana, Stevonya, Andrea, Adam and Brianca; twenty-four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Deborah L. Patterson and Romona Lawrence; and eight siblings: three sisters, Bessie, Suddie and Jessie; five brothers, Emmitt, Levi, Eugene, Edward and Leslie Hicks.

Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 N. 6th Street, with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Marvin T. Smith will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
