Priscilla Adams Thomson, 94, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in the presence of her family at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab Center in Mt. Carmel.
She was born March 6, 1916 to Frank and Sarah (Seavey) Adams in East Boothbay, Maine, where her family owned and operated a renowned shipbuilding company. Priscilla and her family later relocated to Essex, Conn., where she graduated high school in 1933.
In 1943 she joined the WAVES and was stationed at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida, attaining a rank of Pharmacist's Mate 2nd Class (Ph.M.2/c).
On March 9, 1944 she married Ph.M. 2/c Roy "Tommy" Thomson in the chapel on base. Following their discharges from the Navy in 1945, the Thomsons settled in Bone Gap, where they owned a grocery store for many years.
In 1963, the family moved to Mt. Carmel and opened Thomson's Food Fair on West Third Street. In 1966 the Thomsons joined Richard Pettyjohn in establishing Thomson and Pettyjohn Real Estate, which is currently located at 226 North Walnut Street in Mt. Carmel.
Priscilla and her husband traveled the world together, spending many summers with family and friends in her hometown in Maine. In 1991 she was joined in Mt. Carmel by her sister Ruth, with whom she lived and enjoyed companionship for over 10 years.
In addition to working full-time and raising four children, Priscilla was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, junior choir director, board member, President of the Deborah Circle, and also assisted with the preparation and distribution of the weekly newsletter.
Those whose lives Priscilla touched knew her to be a generous and compassionate friend to whom nothing was more important than her family and loved ones. Wednesday marks the culmination of a long and joy-filled journey in which those who knew Priscilla were honored and blessed to have shared.
She is survived by her four children, Sara (Steve) Storckman of Mt. Carmel, Pete (Annette) Thomson of Odessa, Fla., Martha Thomson (Edward Quirk) of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Kathi (Ron) Biehl of Mt. Carmel; grandchildren Steven (Tracy) Thomson of West Salem, Scott (Tracy) Thomson of Kingsland, Ga., Amy Thomson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Shawn (Stephanie) Storckman of Mt. Carmel, Michelle (Jason) Moersch of Brentwood, Mo., Greg (Whitney) Bader of Evansville, Ind., Megan Quirk of Brooklyn, N.Y., Kristin Quirk of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Ashley Quirk of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving care-givers Sheila and Sandy.
Priscilla is predeceased by her parents; her husband; her five siblings, Arthur Mahlon Adams, Frank Irving Adams, Parker Adams, Ruth Smith and Esther Adams; as well as her grandson Gregory Storckman. She is also preceded in death by her faithful canine companion, Nikki the Wonder Dog.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service on Sunday, Aug. 1, at Short Funeral Home.
