Plantersville-Gladys Ann Estes Riley, 74, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at North Miss. Medical Center after a lingering illness. Born Nov. 19, 1938 in the Union Community South of Plantersville to Walter Sam and Ethel Edwards Estes, Ann lived all but 7 years there having spent that time as a Professor at Jones Junior College in Ellisville in Jones County. She met her husband, Jerry Riley in Jones Co. and they were married on Nov. 20, l965 at the Union Baptist Church. A graduate of Nettleton High School, she received her BA in Education from the University of Mississippi, attended the University of Southern Mississippi, received her Masters in Education from Mississippi State University and later her Specialist from Mississippi State University. A beloved and devoted educator for 37 years, she retired in 2002 from Shannon High School where she taught business studies, accounting and computer science and was a Teacher of the Year. Ann was a faithful member of the Union United Methodist Church where she served from many years as Church secretary. She enjoyed the outdoors especially camping, was an avid reader of good books and literature and a great provider and encourager as wife, mother and grandmother to her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry M.Riley, her son: Sam Riley and wife, Angie and her granddaughter, Amber Riley all of the Union Community; a special friend, Linda Trimble, several cousins and her Friday Night Supper Club buddies from Union UMC, which brought her much happiness. She was preceded in death by her parents and her only sister, Merle Estes Meeks.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. Lynn Fair officiating and Sheriff Jim Johnson delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Estes Family Plot at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5PM-8PM today and from 2 PM-service time all at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors.

Pallbearers will be Fred Pettigrew, Carroll Pettigrew, David Goggans, Fred Allen Payne, Joe Loden and Jim Johnson
