Charlotte S. Day

Char passed away peacefully at Arbors at New Castle Nursing Home at the age of 74 on March 24, 2013.

She was born in Ithaca, NY to the late George C. and Katherine Marinos Schempp, graduated from Ithaca High School and attended Cornell University, the third generation of her father's family to do so, as did her mother. Char was a perfectionistic homemaker, excellent cook, amateur genealogist and avid stamp collector for many years. She was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) in 1972 and it caused increasing problems after 1986. Char moved to Arbors in the fall of 1996. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Newark, the American Philatelic Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Char is survived by her husband of over 53 years, William H. Day, their son, Robert S. Day (Joan), grandchildren, Melissa C. Day and Steven J. Day and a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a half brother and half sister. Char was also preceded in death by her brothers, George C. Schempp, III and William A. Schempp and her stepmother, Elizabeth Schempp.

Friends may call on Monday, April 1, after 10 am at the MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt. 202 South of Silverside Road, with additional parking at the Brandywine YMCA rear lot) Wilm., DE 19803 where a service will be held at 11 am. Burial will follow at Lombardy Cemetery on Concord Pike.

Her family sincerely thanks members of the Arbor's Staff, and Dr. Padman, who cared for Char during her long illness.
