Mrs. Ruth A. Hughes, 81, of 3232 S. Spring St. died at 10:20 p.m. Friday at Springfield Community Hospital.
She was the daughter of Simon W. and Charlotte Sperry Herron. Mrs. Hughes was employed 25 years by Burton Reed Co. and previously taught at Wanless School. In 1920 she married Holland Hughes who preceded her in in 1961.
She is survived by one daughter, Norma Sorenson of Springfield; two sons, Dewey H. of Springfield and Oris R. of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Alderson of Girard, Mrs. Mabel Miller, Mrs. Clara Bender, both of Springfield and Mrs. Edna Davis of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Chester Herron of Lawrenceville and Claude Herron of Phoenix, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Staab Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger F. Christianson officiating. Burial in East Cemetery, Waverly.
