JOSH DAVID (J.D.) MILLS
Lancaster resident Josh David (J.D.) Mills died Tuesday, June 18, in Lancaster. He was 85.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 am to 10 am on Friday, June 21. Funeral services will follow at Joshua Memorial Park and Mortuary, 808 E. Lancaster Blvd. in Lancaster, In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Visiting Nurses Association at 725 E. Ave. J, Lancaster, Ca 93535.
Mr. Mills was born July 30, 1916 in Nocono, Texas to Charles and Ida Mills. He family says this about him: "The family moved to Lancaster in 1935 to farm on the east side. J. D. began his career in the Industrial Chemical Industry in Searles Valley in 1936.
"He joined the U.S. Army in March 1941. He was sent to Kanahoe, Oahu after Pearl Harbor was attacked and spent four years in the Asiatic Pacific campaign in the 25th Infantry Division of the 161st Infantry Regiment. Grenade wounds at Balete Pass, Luzon in 1945 put an end to his combat duty. J.D. returned to his previous job at West End Chemical Company and remained there until his retirement in 1982. This was his only significant employment. He length of service there was 46 years. He spent his last years living quietly in the company of his family and so many lifetime friends.
"He is survived by Peggy, his loving wife of 53 years, son John and his wife Jeannie Mills of Colorado Springs, Colorado, son Mike and his wife Trish Mills of Lancaster, a sister Mildred and her husband Charlie Rader of Lancaster; a step-great-grandson Josh McBryant and the girl who put the sparkle in his eye, Audrina Arrowood-Palmer, his stp great granddaughter. Also surviving are nephews and nieces, Dave and Audrey Rader of Cardiff, Mark and Nancy Rader of Ventura, Diane Reik, Donna Sue Thornhill, Terry Mills, Steve Mills and Barbara Steinkirchner and many cherished friends. J.D. was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Ida Mills, sister Fern Scott and brothers W. C. Mills and A. Lee Mills."
