Frank Alois Bir, 70, died at 3:10 PM Monday [Nov. 11, 1968] in St. Elizabeth Hospital after an extended illness. He had been hospitalized one day. Born near New Albany, he came to Reynolds in 1913. In 1918, he was married to Louise M. Maxwell, at Indianapolis; she died in 1960.

Mr. Bir was employed for several years as a section foreman for the Monon Railroad, and during World War II he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge, he worked as a guard at the Smithsonian Institute. He moved to Lafayette five years ago and was a member of St. Boniface Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jack [Mary Winifred] Guard of Lafayette and Mrs. Paul [Arnetta Ordel] Pattison of Hot Springs, AR; one son, Frank Alois Bir, Jr. of Hyattsville, MD; one brother, John Bir of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Devitt of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Leona Dukes of Rehoboth, DE; and ten grandchildren.
