Jonathan C. Duncan was born in Grayson county, West Virginia, May 17, 1840, and died in Waverly, Ill., February 16, 1907, aged 66 years and 9 months. In 1860 he came to this state. December 28, 1865, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Jane Allis. To this union seven children were born, three dying in infancy. Four children survive him, namely: Clara A., Ira J., Irwin L. and Minnie A. Duncan. His wife preceded him to the better world twenty-nine years ago. Deceased also leaves three brothers and three sisters. He followed the profession of school teaching for a number of years in his earlier life. He professed conversion at Rohrer Chapel in 1894, and lived in the faith of the Savior to the end, although he never united with the church.
